Day 26 of My Cleanse: Food as Medicine

"Let your food be medicine and your medicine be food." - Hippocrates

As I'm going through my cleanse on Sebi's products my mission is to share this experience in hope that it helps someone on their transition to natural health. One crucial step in Sebi's cleanse, as with most herbal cleanses, is following the nutritional guide (changing the diet). My thinking is that when it comes to getting well - do whatever it takes, but not everyone thinks that way.

This week I learned that two people very close to me are facing a life-threatening disease. My first reaction was to get them both on Dr. Sebi's products with an urgency. One is open to trying cleanses and a semi-vegetarian lifestyle. The other is not accepting the idea of restricting her diet to one without meat...not even for a few months. It is difficult for me to gently approach this subject with her since I am so passionate about it and care so much about her health. However, she reminds me that I did not get to where I am overnight, so I should not expect her to either. And she's right.

I learned how to be a vegan after many years of trying, failing and trying again. I honed my discipline with food on extremely restricted diets, marathon fasts and years of studying natural healers. All of this has helped me to see food as medicine.  This frame of mind frees me from most food addictions. So I'm not at all tempted when sitting in restaurants with friends eating burgers, steaks or triple chocolate cake.

Changing the psychology of a person's relationship with food is very complex. I have observed a highly guarded level of intimacy people often have with food. The mere mention of removing certain foods from their diet is taken with great offense, denial or flat out refusal. If you are healthy I understand the resistance to remove favorite foods from your diet. However, it is those who are sick, on medication for the rest of their lives and still refuse to change their diets that confound me. Or worse, the denial: believe taking these lifetime meds means there is no health problem.

On the other hand there are those few who walked away from life-threatening disease by switching to a vegan diet. There are so many success stories. Did you know that after his heart surgery Former President, Bill Clinton became a vegan to improve his health? He's lost weight and looks healthier than he did when he was in office. Check it out for yourself on youtube (Bill Clinton became a vegan).

There is a cure, just know that food is a huge part of it.
