Day 26 of My Cleanse: Food as Medicine

"Let your food be medicine and your medicine be food." - Hippocrates

As I'm going through my cleanse on Sebi's products my mission is to share this experience in hope that it helps someone on their transition to natural health. One crucial step in Sebi's cleanse, as with most herbal cleanses, is following the nutritional guide (changing the diet). My thinking is that when it comes to getting well - do whatever it takes, but not everyone thinks that way.

This week I learned that two people very close to me are facing a life-threatening disease. My first reaction was to get them both on Dr. Sebi's products with an urgency. One is open to trying cleanses and a semi-vegetarian lifestyle. The other is not accepting the idea of restricting her diet to one without meat...not even for a few months. It is difficult for me to gently approach this subject with her since I am so passionate about it and care so much about her health. However, she reminds me that I did not get to where I am overnight, so I should not expect her to either. And she's right.

I learned how to be a vegan after many years of trying, failing and trying again. I honed my discipline with food on extremely restricted diets, marathon fasts and years of studying natural healers. All of this has helped me to see food as medicine.  This frame of mind frees me from most food addictions. So I'm not at all tempted when sitting in restaurants with friends eating burgers, steaks or triple chocolate cake.

Changing the psychology of a person's relationship with food is very complex. I have observed a highly guarded level of intimacy people often have with food. The mere mention of removing certain foods from their diet is taken with great offense, denial or flat out refusal. If you are healthy I understand the resistance to remove favorite foods from your diet. However, it is those who are sick, on medication for the rest of their lives and still refuse to change their diets that confound me. Or worse, the denial: believe taking these lifetime meds means there is no health problem.

On the other hand there are those few who walked away from life-threatening disease by switching to a vegan diet. There are so many success stories. Did you know that after his heart surgery Former President, Bill Clinton became a vegan to improve his health? He's lost weight and looks healthier than he did when he was in office. Check it out for yourself on youtube (Bill Clinton became a vegan).

There is a cure, just know that food is a huge part of it.

Day 16 of My Cleansing Journey

Yesterday was a experiment in herbs gone wrong. I took my regular morning dose of Dr. Sebi's herbs, which was fine. I also take other supplements, such as, cayenne capsules (by Nature's Way) to increase my blood circulation. On this particular day I took 2 cayenne capsules with a meal instead of the recommended 1 capsule. Although I can easily digest this when mixed in my smoothie, it was horse of a different color  taken whole with food.

Now if you read my earlier blog you will recall I narrowly escaped my agonizing stomachache before by coating my stomach with a thick smoothie. But this time I was not so lucky. There was a real moment of clarity and acceptance that my lunch was coming back up regardless of any efforts to stop it. The extra capsule caused great irritation to my stomach lining and had to come out -- or at least that's what my body decided. After vomiting twice I needed a nap to rest and regroup. I've finally learned my lesson to only take 1 cayenne capsule with a meal.

On the bright side,  earlier in the day I had a great time grocery shopping. Over the past two weeks while fasting I was limited to fruits and vegetables. Now that I'm eating solid foods again its exciting to find great snacks that are within Dr. Sebi's nutritional guide. At Trader Joe's I found a store brand light roasted seaweed, cherry larabar (raw dates, almonds, and unsweetened cherries) and organic popcorn (with olive oil and sea salt). Believe me, that's far more than I thought I would find.

The lesson learned today was follow the directions.

Week 2 With Sebi Products

I've been so busy the last week that I've been unable (too tired) to keep up with my blogging. Because my days have demanded 14 hours or more outside of my home, it's been difficult to stick with my fast. Yet it was the breakdown of my power juicer that sealed my dietary fate. Trying to fast a month without a juicer is like trying to run a marathon without liquid refreshments. Somewhere along the way you're going to quit. I compromised by eating raw fruits and vegetables. I was able to buy Odawalla and Naked Juice drinks after VERY carefully reading the label. For each brand I only found one juice that was in alignment with Dr. Sebi's list. Later I decided I'd rather eat raw foods than drink the bottled juices since (1)  its not organic and (2) not all of their ingredients are listed.

To summarize my diet so far: 11 days I fasted, 2 days I had raw fruits and vegetables. Today, day 14, I had cooked quinoa pasta with steamed asparagus and a homemade sauce. Although I've switched to cooked food I have not deviated from Sebi's list.

Physically I feel healthy, strong and energetic. I'm almost at the end of my Fucus herbal treatment for month one. I still have another 2 weeks before I run out of Maya and Viento herbs. I'm already making plans to purchase my second month of herbs.  I've accepted that it took a lifetime eating all the 'wrong stuff' thus creating mucus in my body and it will take at least  six months to a year of serious commitment to cleansing and healing to get it out. On one hand a lifetime of malnourishing my body and the other hand a clean healthy body in six to twelve months - I'll take that deal any day!!!

Yesterday, I spoke with a college freshman about being a vegan. Her response was like most people I've spoken with, in that she could not imagine life without eating meat. I became a vegan for the same reason former President Bill Clinton did, to improve my health. Being a vegan is not an easy road to stay on. It is a tremendous commitment which means sacrificing all my favorite pastime foods, having dinner with family and friends as they comment on how delicious their meal is, being limited in the number of restaurants where I can eat with my friends. On the other hand, it is an awakening to what's going inside and around my body.  Its a constant consciousness of what is in the food I eat. Not many meat eaters think about effect meat has on their bodies. Even when they know the FDA has approved, unlabelled cloned meat currently sold in USA markets, steroids injected in animals, viruses sprayed on meat and the vicious slaughter of animals, none of this stops them from eating meat. When will people connect the dots between meat and poor health?

When my doctor told me the baseball-sized fibroid she removed from my body was common in American women and will grow back in a few years I refused to believe her. I knew becoming a vegetarian would be the first step in preventing that from happening. Now that I'm taking Sebi's products and following the nutritional guideline I will never have another fibroid or any form of cancer in my body again.

Before I came to Dr. Sebi I studied the philosophies of several leading natural healers. Although there were may different beliefs of how to treat disease, the one common thread was eating meat will kill you or make you very sick. Dairy is considered a liquid form of  meat containing cholesterol and all the other damaging effects of meat itself. A wealth of information supporting this can be found on the internet, youtube, bookstores. The New York Bestseller "Skinny Bitch" has created a chain from providing detailed information in a modern fashion. Dr. Sebi's youtube videos are filled with information on health and diet. Information is all around us.

There is really something rewarding about being a vegan. At the end of the day I feel good about my diet, health and contribution to this planet Earth.

Days Two and Three on Sebi Products

On day two  I seemed to have passed the headache stage, however another noticeable change was that I had at least 5 bowel movements (BM) before 1:00 PM. (Not everyone can handle talk of bowel movements, so perhaps "waste management" is a more acceptable term to use among friends or at the dinner table.) By afternoon I felt like I had a colonic. When Sebi says he's getting the mucus out, he's not kidding! My stomach was as flat as a pancake after disposing of so much waste.  It felt so great to know that I was getting all the toxins out of my body. There's no doubt the herbs are working. I believe the CC4 is chiefly responsible for the boost in "waste management."

Although I'm on a liquid diet, my energy has been pretty good for the most part. The only downfall is I've been unable to overwork myself to working beyond myself...if that can be considered a downfall. I frequently overwork myself to meet deadlines. However, on this program and liquid diet, at the end of the day my body demands at least 7 hours of sleep.

In the morning when I drag myself out bed the first thing I do is take my herbs. Within minutes of taking Viento I feel a boost in energy, as though I've had 2 cups of coffee. I'm wide awake, alert and ready to rock 'n roll.  I certainly feel it working! A full 3 hours later I make morning breakfast drink.

Throughout the day my energy level seems good. When I get hungry before lunchtime I just drink more water and it seems to pass. I add cayenne to all of my liquid meals to keep my circulation up and it helps me stay alert.  Unfortunately, on day two I made the mistake of taking cayenne pills 30 minutes after my drink. This amounts to pouring red pepper in an empty stomach. I experienced a 'fire in my belly' like I never want to feel again. With urgency I made a fruit smoothie adding some substance (avocado, banana) to it. Within 10 minutes all was right in my world again.

On day three I made the mistake of leaving home with only fruit juice. Drinking only fruit smoothies through the day left my body hungry for nutrients I wasn't providing. For this reason I experienced more hunger throughout the day until I returned home and juiced my vegetables. Thw vegetables gave me the balance I needed in my diet. I instantly felt a calm in my body and the hunger was gone.

The lessons over the two days: (1) Never take cayenne pills on an empty stomach (2) Always balance my diet with both fruits and vegetables.

Day One on Sebi Products

If you don't know who Dr. Sebi is, he's a natural healer who has proven in the U.S. Supreme Court that he CAN cure AIDS, HIV, Cancer, Diabetes, etc.  Now that doesn't happen everyday. There's something very special about his products that western medicine can't understand...they actually cure incurable disease. So how does one cure the incurable? Visiting Dr. Sebi's website is a start (www.drsebiproducts.com). If you want to know what it's like, then follow my six month commitment to using his products.

Today is the first day of my 6-month journey on Sebi's products. As the sign in his office reads the cure only works if you follow the diet, which happens to be a strict vegan diet. However, I have heard some people say they were allowed to eat small portions of fish during the healing process. The vegan diet doesn't shun me because I've been a vegetarian/vegan for 4 years. To increase the effectiveness of the program I will consume only juices, smoothies and non-solid soups made from vegetable for the first 30 days. (That's essentially juice fasting for 30 days). Fasting is not necessary while on Sebi's products, but it is completely my choice.

And so it begins...DAY ONE:

This morning at 5 A.M. I took my morning dose of Viento, Tonic Electra, Fucus and other herbs. By 9 A.M. I experienced a slight headache. Its common to experience headaches when cleansing since toxins are released from the cells to expel it from the body. However, this was the fastest effect I've ever had during a cleanse. After a hour or so the discomfort dissipated. My biggest surprise was at the energy level I had and the lack of appetite during my usual breakfast time. It was 9:45 A.M. when I felt a little hunger. I didn't prepare my juice for the day so I had to improvise by making a smoothie with my fruits on hand.

Lunch was the usual 12:30 P.M. time, which was also time to take another dose of Fucus followed the Maya tablets. (I forgot to take the Maya earlier -- oops). 4:15 P.M. was the next time the thought of food crossed my mind. The Naked Juice - Berry Blast drink satisfied my stomach until dinner.

As you've probably guessed, dinner wasn't very interesting either. It was however, an experiment in what I could conjure together and stay within the diet guidelines. I juiced 2 kinds of kale, cucumber, and green apples. Then poured the juice into a blender to add a banana, strawberries, avocado (good for thickening a smoothie) and sweetened it with organic raw agave. For some kick I topped it with a bit of cayenne (to increase blood circulation). Yum.

While preparing my juice meals for day two I admittedly tasted more than I needed to. But at least I'm prepared for tomorrow. Now I'm taking my bedtime dose and signing off for the day.
